Hi to all. It's been over 20 yrs since i had an RC model I have just finished building my new car and fancy putting it on the track. I've got a Tamiya 4wd buggy, The Rising Storm. Hopefully i will be coming down to your next meet on Friday to see how it's done and meet you all. Any advice on what i'll need to race would be appreciated. Thanks, Richard.

Hi,
What do you race at your club? I've always fancied a Tamiya so I can build it, but contacted another local club who said the best thing about Tamiya was that they came in nice boxes, then I read on your site that they produced the world champion car. Somewhat confused. Any way I've always fancied having a go at racing so I'm now looking for a car and a club. Even my limited research has shown that I need to sort both together or I'll end up with the wrong car at the wrong club. Will look silly with a 2wd buggy at a club which only does 4wd touring cars

Hi Jonathan,
Come along on Friday evening and chat to the racers at the club. We run buggies / touring cars / mardaves re the tamiya thing, yes they are very good especially their 416 world edition, but there are other manufactures out there that sell equally as good cars hpi / losi / associated.
But the best solition is to pop along, we are a very friendly club and you wont have a problem talking to racers there.
See you soon,
Steve.
BTW I run an associated TC5R, which I believe is a nice car, although if I could afford it I would buy a tamiya 416 worlds as it is at the top of its game at the moment. But dont just go and buy that car come and talk to the racers 1st as they will suggest hopups or mods that may be required and steer you in the right direction.

Hi Jonathan I started 30 years ago and the only buggy available back then was Tamiya At Dudley believe in helping everyone that wants to race whichever make of car they choose, they are welcome to race at Dudley, Tamiya have a strong following still narrow minded people say they are rubbish but. its what suit you that matters. Ive seen drivers spend £350 on radio transmitters then top drivers like Jamie Booth beat them easily with a £40 Acoms so the moral is do it for fun and if your happy with whatever you race dont listen to others about how good or bad it is , at the end of the day its whatever makes you happy and enjoy racing come along any Friday to Coseley you will be most welcome Roy

Hi Johnathan,
Everyone you talk to will give you a different opinion on what their personal favourite is and what they think is "rubbish". Generally, so long as you stick to the big names (see our Manufacturers forum) you cant really go wrong. None of these companies make really bad cars, some are just more popular than others. Don't let people tell you that one company makes better cars than another, everyone has their allegiance to a different hobby company.
Tamiya have always made really good beginner kits, glorified toys if you will but recently in particular they have produced some really good racing-spec cars too and are a good choice. There are other things to consider too; what does your local hobby shop support, and can you get any spares for your particular car? Furthermore, are there any weak points that are likely to break? How much do the spares cost? Are you likely to want to hop-up you car, if so is there a range of first party and third party hop ups available?
My car for example, a HPI, has weak differentials and these can be costly to replace if bought new, but i am able to pick up most of the differential components off eBay at a fraction of the cost and thus i have dozens of spare diffs. However, there isn't much in the way of third party hop-ups and the HPI ones are pretty expensive.
It mainly boils down to whether you want to race on-road or off-road. 1/10 Touring cars are pretty much the de facto standard on-road car (although the F1 pan-cars are enjoying a bit of a resurgence, albeit only on very smooth circuits) and probably 2WD buggies are more popular than 4WD.
Please introduce yourself if you're ever around and about the club.

Hi, Our 8 year old lad has asked for a Radio Controlled car for Christmas and I would like some advice. I am very aware of all the 'cheap plastic' imports that you can find out there and I believe in doing things properly, I once built a Tamiya Taisan Starcard Porsche myself, many years ago which I still own. I was looking at getting him an Ansmann Electric Racing Royal Flash http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpecification&ItemID=31253 The reasoning was Price, spare parts are readily available and he will get more opportunity to use it off road than on road. What are your thoughts on this Manufacturer and type of vehicle I was also thinking that if he gets into the RC car game we would join your club and have an amateur go at racing, Would this be something that is raced on your club nights? Hey I may even tune up the Porsche and have a go myself. What are the rules for electric vehicles entered into your races? Would it be possible to pop along this Friday 11th December to see what happens at your club nights? Many Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.
